One can often look at someone's face and not know the hardships that person endured.
Mari Malek was born in south Sudan but her family had to flee the dangerous situations plaguing her country.
They first lived in Egypt, being ridiculed and spat on when walking the streets.

She eventually arrived in the United States after being sponsored by the Catholic Charities.
Modeling and DJing became her eventual professions, yet she states that it was a difficult journey.

Mari also takes an active role in promoting the advancement of education in her native country. Her charity Stand For Education assists by providing education avenues to the less fortunate in South Sudan.
